In the 2016 Census, there were 5,214 people in Watsonia. Of these 49.0% were male and 51.0% were female. The median age of people in Watsonia was 38 years. Children aged 0 - 14 years made up 18.5% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 16.7% of the population.
The suburb has many parks, reserves and open spaces. It is well known to be a familiy kid friend neighbourhood. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants available, but its known to lack an evening social life.
Watsonia is filled generally with many standalone houses on generously sized blocks. There has been some subdivisions and an introduction to townhouse and unit living, however its still made up of brick veneer structed homes.
Watsonia Primary School is a government coeducation school teaching children from foundation prep through to grades six.
Watsonia North Primary School is a government coeducation school teaching children from foundation prep through to grades six. It was established back in 1971.
Loyola College is an independent Catholic secondary school for boys and girls. Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1980 with an initial enrolment of 134 it now has over 1350.
