The suburb is populated with many families. At the 2016 Census, Mulgrave had a population of 19,368. The median age was recorded to be 39 years old.

The suburb's central shopping hub is Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre. However it has great venues such as the Southern Community Centre and Waverley Park.

Established in 1879, Mulgrave Primary School has been teaching children from grades foundation prep to grade six. In 2019, the school had an estimated enrollment of over 400 students.

Albany Rise Primary School

Albany Rise Primary School is located in the City of Monash within the boundaries of Wellington, Springvale and Police Roads, Mulgrave. The student enrollment numbers average around 300 students each year.

Wellington Secondary College
