Top things to do in Balwyn
Known as one of Melbourne’s most affluent suburbs, Balwyn features many tree-lined streets and has been among the most desirable places to live.

YMCA Boroondara Sports Complex
YMCA Boroondara Sports Complex offer a wide range of services catering many health and fitness enthusiasts. The centre has a fully equipped gymnasium, world class aquatic facilities including an outdoor 50m heated pool. The venue facilitates many different sports all year round and has an exciting bussing atmosphere.
Whitehorse Road
Whitehorse road would be seen as the heart of Balwyn’s vibrant community. The street is active all day long with many retail stores, bakeries, cafes and restaurants to choose from. You’ll see many business meetings during the day, but friends and family take over it’s night life. It’s a very nice place to spend some time on a regular basis.
Mr Hendricks
Mr Hendricks is a modern styled cafe that has dining areas inside and out. Don’t be fooled by the small window at the front, this cafe extends quite far back. The food is excellent and very diverse. They have a great breakfast and lunch menu, with vegan and other alternative options. If you ever find an excuse to head to Balwyn, don’t miss out on their excellent coffee too!
One Plus Piece
If you are a Japanese anime/manga fan, this is the place for you! Located on Whitehorse Road, One Plus Piece café serves some excellent coffee, with an extended beverage list to choose from. You can get your hands on some nice smoothies, matcha or turmeric lattes just to name a few. They also serve up great burgers, salmon dishes and slow cooked duck.
Hahndorf’s Fine Chocolates
For all you chocolate lovers, this place serves up some nice coffee, hot chocolate, milkshakes and cakes while customers can sample their chocolates. The place is mix between a chocolate retail shop and a cafe. Take a look!
Balwyn Library
Probably noted as the best library in Melbourne after the famous State Library of Victoria, this is a place not just for book worms! It was refurbished in 2018 and now looks immaculate. With an abundance of books and reading areas, the venue also provides sophisticated meeting rooms for hire, study rooms and computers. The library also offers some great events for children and families all year round.
Beckett Park
Beckett Park is surrounded by beautifully aged trees offering a serene look all year round. The trees offer great shade during the summer, change colours during autumn and look beautifully green in winter and spring. The outdoor playground is very popular among the little ones too.
Koonung Creek Reserve
Koonung Creek Reserve stretches for miles alongside the eastern freeway and Koonung Creek. Another clean open space for families, friends and couples to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. There is a large grassy area for dogs to roam off-leash while the playgrounds are very entertaining for kids.
Palace Balwyn Cinema
Palace Balwyn has been an iconic venue for decades. The building from the outside has character and heritage. Once you walk in, its not your everyday cinema. The foyer and communal areas still have its old appearance, but in really clean condition. It features eleven auditoria, two stylish bars and its own cafe – Bianca Noir, which is a nod to the French-Italian heritage of the business.
Balwyn Park Community Hub and Tennis Club
Home to the Balwyn Park Tennis Club, Balwyn Tigers Football Club, University of the Third Age and other community interest groups. The facility combines many different facilities including a club room, multipurpose teaching and learning space and meeting places. The community centre has been around for ages. You should check out the memorabilia and trophies.
