Melbourne ranked top ten liveable cities

Melbourne ranked top ten (10)  liveable cities. According to the 2022 Global Liveability Index recently released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Melbourne is the only city in Australia to reach the 10.

The EIU ranked 173 cities around the world on a variety of factors, including health care, crime rates, political stability and infrastructure to name a few. Melbourne officially came in equal 10th position with Osaka  Japan. Previously, Melbourne was ranked 8th in last year’s results. Lord mayor Sally Capp said “We ranked really well on key metrics such as education and infrastructure, we were the best rated city on culture and entertainment. We’ve still got some work to do on our healthcare system.”

What changed in the top rankings?

There were a number of changes to the top of the list. Most notably last year Auckland, New Zealand was ranked number 1st. It landed from top spot all the way down to 34th.

In 2021, Australia dominated the top 10 with Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne. This year, they ranked 27th, 30th, 32nd and 10th respectively. In the 2022 report, Sydney came in at 13th on the list.

London and Paris also fell sharply, largely due to the increased cost of living.

Ultimately, Europe dominated the list in 2022. There were 6 in the top 10, however Canada stole the show with 3 in the top 10.
