Top things to do in Maribyrnong
Known as one of Melbourne’s most affluent suburbs, Balwyn features many tree-lined streets and has been among the most desirable places to live.
Here is a list of things to do, but in no particular order:
High Point Shopping Centre
One of the largest shopping centres in Australia, High Point Shopping Centre features over 500 stores. You’ll find some of the world’s largest brands to home essentials. The food court is massive, but there are also many qualify cafes and restaurants to grab lunch after shopping the day away.
The cinemas are great while there are a number of children’s play areas for families to enjoy a day out.
Maribyrnong River
The Maribyrnong River is a perennial river of the Port Phillip catchment. It runs directly through the suburb and stretches 40kms long. The council has established some excellent walking/running tracks, while cyclist actively use these paths throughout the week.
There are many seating arrangements and places to stop and have a picnic. There are a few cafes close by that also offer you a beautiful view of the river. You’ll see rowing groups exercise across the river too. It’s great for a selfie photo!
Funtopia
Located in the border of Maidestone & Maribyrnong, these is one fun place to be! This massive indoor play centre has children of all ages running around and exploring many obstacles, tunnels, nets and slides. It is home to so many parties where they offer a diverse range of catering, a party room and many fun games.
Edgewater Estate
Edgewater is a beautiful residential estate that has many beautiful walkways to the Maribyrnong River, restaurants and cafes. During the week, its very quite so it’s perfect for a lunch meeting. There buildings are modern and very clean. The views from the top of Edgewater is outstanding. You get a full view of the city, the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel (that lights up at night) while you get a captivating view of the Maribyrnong River.
Crunch Fitness Centre
We all love to get our fitness on… This gym is huge. You can just about do anything, from cardio, gymnastics, Olympic lifting, body building and even strongman work. The place is immaculate and the 24hr opening makes its very flexible. The toilets are as clean as a hotel while the have many feature walls to film yourself pumping weights.
Maribyrnong Library
The library is a great communal place for locals. They have conference rooms, reading spaces and many events to attract children to reading and learning.
Pipemakers Playground
Surround by gum trees and natural wildlife, the playground is a peaceful setting for families. You’ll forget you’re only 7kms from the city! It has a beautiful twisty slide that flows from a large play nest area This adventurer play space allows kids to demonstrate their creativity. There are swings, rock climbing, music making devices, and a massive campfire.
Parkrun
Every Saturday at 8.00am a large group of fitness enthusiasts join a park run that stretches 5kms along the river. It’s a great way to meet locals and socialise. It is all about fun, so you don’t have to be an Olympic athlete. Get outdoors meet some nice people and enjoy. It is also a free activity.
Maribyrnong College’s Sports Academy
The suburb has many young active families. If you want to join a badminton team or have a causal hit, the venue offers friends and family to interact and have fun. The building is architecturally beautiful. The indoor facility is state of the art in quality. Go take a look for yourself!
Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre
Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre has terrific facilities and programs. It has an outdoor playground for the little ones. The indoor pool has eight lanes, while the building has a high quality gymnasium. The indoor cafe offers some nice food and beverages too. A very happy, but loud atmosphere. A place well suited for children’s parties or someone wanting to cool down in the summer.
