One of our professional property consultants at Crest Property Investments, Ryan Wu is among the most enthusiastic people when it comes to his work ethics but manages a great work life balance.
Here is the latest from Ryan Wu:
How do you keep a work life balance?
I really enjoy what I do for a career and I’m set to maintain this for the long term. When helping client’s buy a property, I want to be there for them in the future to celebrate the decisions they made and help them advance their property portfolio.
I have two young children. My son is adventurous and loves Lego. Spending time playing Lego has given me more patience and has become a relaxing activity for me. My daughter loves art and craft, so I also enjoy being creative with her. I keep a work life balance with the use of a schedule. Each day has a set plan, where I switch on to work mode. As the weekend approaches, that switch changes where I become a father. It has given me a clear separation, which was really needed once we started working from home.
Do you work from home?
Yes I certainly spend a lot of time working from home. As I am personally motivated, I find I get more work done from home. I generally use my time at home, reviewing my client’s property needs, researching locations and property opportunities. Post covid-19 lockdowns in 2020, we have been fortunate to remain productive working on-site or off. As much as I enjoy the ability to work from home, I really enjoy getting out and meeting clients. Putting a face to a name is still very important to me.
How did you work through lockdown?
I was fortunately lucky that I was able to work well through lockdown. If I wasn’t consulting clients, I was networking or researching property opportunities. We also devoted some time establishing video content and podcasts so people could learn more about what we do, how we can help and teach people more about property investment.
What does a day in the life of a working parent look like at Crest Property Investments?
My schedule allows me to remain highly active in my work life five days a week. Weekends are a juggling act. Taking my daughter to piano lessons, taking the kids to the park or swimming. I do make an effort to meet clients on weekends, but I devote my primary attention to my children on weekends. They give me the purpose to be successful at work.
Looking at last year – what has surprised you the most when working from home?
Clients or buyers have made more of an effort to introduce themselves and make time to discuss their needs. Sounds crazy, right? Prior to lockdown, clients needed me in person, but finding the time to do so was difficult for them. These days, a zoom call is as personal as a face-to-face meeting. We can do it before and after work hours, on their lunch break or even on a weekend. Its made everyone’s time more efficient as they don’t have to cater you when yuo are a guest in their home, they don’t need to find parking in the city, there is no need wasting travel time to my office etc.
Post lockdown has been somewhat evolutionary…
Are there any good property investment opportunities in the market right now?
In my opinion, there are some great house and land packages available. In saying that, many who do this alone will make costly mistakes. A true full turn-key is a great strategy and hole proofs many of the concerns I have for people who don’t know what they are doing. In terms of location, I think the northern and western corridors are best. They have better infrastructure, a proven pipeline of corporate and government spending. With these positive factors, there are some good investment gains to be found.
