Top things to do in the Southbank
Southbank situated on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD (city) is home to some of the best entertainment and amenities the country has to offer. From fine arts, world-class restaurants and modern/heritage architecture, there is something for everyone.
Here is a list of things to do, but in no particular order:
Eureka Skydeck
This 297m skyscraper offers some of the best city views available. With its 360 degree view lines, it doesn’t get better than this. It also features a glass floor that sticks outside the building. Make sure you look down on your feet… yikes!
Alternatively head up to Eureka 89. A wonderful restaurant with captivating views. It’s very romantic with a lovely menu.
Melbourne Recital Centre
A venue home to live entertainment and music. The architecture and acoustics are amazing! Many people of all kinds come out respectfully to appreciate arts, creativity, music and so much more. The building is very impressive, both inside and out.
The Langholm Hotel
Southbank is spoiled with choose when it comes to short term accommodation. If you are looking to stay over night in the city, the Langholm Hotel is a hot spot. A wonderful venue with many amenities to choose from
If you are looking for a pampering, they have some excellent massage parlours inside, saunas and pool.
Yarra Promenade
The Yarra Promenade is adjacent the the Melbourne CBD. If you want to enjoy a lunch break with a special friend, this is a great place to take a pit stop. You get unprecedented views of the city skyline, regular boats and canoes passing through the Yarra river, fine architecture and monuments and locals busking or painting on the street.
It is a great place to get right into the middle of the Melbourne culture.

One of the largest tourist destinations in metropolitan Melbourne. The venue is massive! You obviously have many areas to gamble, but the venue is much more than that. The Crown Melbourne Casino offers luxury accommodation, high quality function rooms, private dining, shopping, restaurants, night clubs, cinemas and so much more. National Gallery of Victoria
Founded in 1861, the National Gallery of Victoria is Melbourne’s biggest art museum. It’s estimated that over 3 million people visit the venue each year. Their are various exhibitions to cater everyone.
Take a river cruise
If you’ve spent some time in Melbourne, you would have noticed the Yarra river that runs through the city. There are some private river cruise that take off from Southbank. There are a number of different sizes, but you’ll soon learn to appreciate the city from a complete different angel.
Cruises are great for bucks/hens nights, work functions, birthday celebrations or end of year work break ups.
Ponyfish Island
If you are someone who loves the social night life, this is the spot. A uniquely designed beer garden that feels as though you are partying on an island. As the night sky falls, the Melbourne city lights take over. It’s beautifully located in Southbank and easy to find.
Waterfront
A very popular restaurant offering some of the best seafood platters and grilled meats. A fantastic place to chill with friends before extending your evening into the night. A place to really wine and dine too. The restaurant serves to late, so you can swing past after a late night at work!
