Any successful person goes through ups and downs. This could be emotionally, professionally or social. Perhaps a mix of them. In the wake of covid-19 it’s certainly testing our motivation and livelihood. These are times when a lack of motivation is completely normal.
Participate in things that make you happy
Finding and keeping your happiness is a key-driver to your motivation. It may have been helping at a school fete, dancing the night away or perhaps rowing a boat through a blue lagoon. If you dwell on past moments, it will enhance those feelings in the now. Do your best to acknowledge good moments in time. In the current situation if you’re down, look to participate in those things that previously made you happy.
Surround yourself around driven people
The people who are around you have a heavy influence on your success. If you spend time with happy, confident, energetic and successful people, you’ll soon see how contagious that is. Perhaps you can pick up on their motivation and some of their good habits too.
Eat better
Food can certainly impact your mood. If you continue to eat junk food, you’ll soon learn how it makes you feel less lively. Your energy levels will spike, your sleep patterns will become shorter and your hormones will affect your motivation. Increasing your fruits and vegetables and drinking more water will go a long way to bringing back your energy and happiness. As we mentioned earlier, happiness is a key-driver to your motivation.
Establish your goals and objectives
Setting goals will create routine and structure in your life. These can be social, professional or financial. These goals can also have deadlines so that you act on them promptly. Goals and objectives create more purpose in your day.
We find some of the shorter term objectives help more as you get a early sense of satisfaction. This will in-turn give you more motivation to achieve your longer term goals.
Try something new
Taking on something that is outside your comfort zone can trigger that much needed motivation. We aren’t saying you need to go bungee jumping or sky diving. That will spike your adrenaline levels, but it doesn’t have to be that extreme to enhance your motivation.
Look at trying something new will excite you and break some of your routine. Most like a structure routine, but breaking it a little with some change can find that motivation you have lacked.
Some examples include, joining a team sport where you can improve your social life. Joining an arts class where you can spend time with like-minded people.
Take some time to reset
It may seem easier said than done, but taking time to reset and evaluate your end-game will help find your purpose.
Learning the art of mediation or listening to soothing music is an effective way to reset. You can also learn how to breathe calmly and practice them each morning. A morning walk can also help reset each day in advance.
Look to be is inspired
We find motivation and inspiration are a perfect combination. Experiencing some inspiration will automatically have you feel some motivation.
Follow some public figures, read a book or watch a special biography or documentary. Inspiration can come from admiring the trees blow in the wind, smelling the flowers on your walk or watching the waves come drifting onto the sand.
Inspiration can be found everywhere. It is different for everyone. Find your happy place and your motivation.
Stay safe and keep well.
