When buying a brand new Apartment it is very common to see a storage cage included. There are many benefits of a storage cage and here we explore them.
A storage cage is often built with chain-wire or a welded mesh frame. A storage cage can vary in shape and size but they generally don’t exceed 6m3. They can be built from floor to ceiling or to a nominated height (such as an over car bonnet). Some can be designed with or without a roof but all have a hinged doors for access.
It’s most preferable to own a storage cage that is fully enclosed to improve security. To further increase the security level, land owners or tenants can purchase a lock to limit access. Covering the storage cage neatly to reduce the visibility is also popular.
What are the benefits of a storage cage?
Over time we all start to accumulate clutter. Many find that the vacuum cleaner, mop and iron table take up the bulk of the storage. Having a storage cage is a great additional space for items like these. The benefits of a storage cage will differ for everyone, however the most common are being able to hold less used belongings and contents. Items may include Christmas decorations, spare chairs, old shoes or clothes and toys to name a few. Some occupants find it helpful to store some tools and work gear too.
Is it safe to keep valuables in the storage cage?
This is probably debatable but we would recommend not retaining anything valuable. Storage cages are usually held in the secured car basement so it has limited access, however this doesn’t mean things can’t be stolen.
It may be another occupant within the Apartment building that has been eyeing off that LED television or painting.Reducing the visibility by wrapping a dark coloured mesh can help while a lock can minimise theft, but they can still be broken into. Limit your chances of loss and keep basic belongings and invaluable items. Acquiring insurance and ensuring the contents in the storage cage is also a smart thing to do.

There are many benefits of a storage cage. It can certainly influence some capital appreciation and contribute to selling the property easier in the future.
