Property trends occur as they do in clothing wear. Many designs trend indefinitely, while some come and go. One area of the house that takes a lot of attention are kitchens… What is currently trending in kitchens?
We have summarised some of the growing trends that are occurring within our kitchen.
Kitchen island bench – Looking at most of the trends, this is the most common. Most of you would know, but this trend has been in the market for quite some time. People like the fact they can entertain at the bench while cooking, making a cocktail while chatting to friends and meal preparing the next day as they help children do their homework. This is particularly popular in Apartments as occupants often avoid buying a dining table and using the kitchen island bench to eat their breakfast. It’s an easy way to create more space in your home.
Butler’s pantry – You don’t have to be addicted to food to love your own pantry. This is a substantially growing trend in residential property. It creates extra storage in the home while allowing the benchtops to look clean and spacious. Many kitchens feature two ovens and two dishwashers. One in the kitchen and the other in the butler pantry. It’s also becoming popular as benches don’t have to support your less desirable items such as a microwave, toaster, kettle etc. Many people also appreciate the fact that most of the cooking preparation is stored away while entertaining. We have seen some really nice designs that often have you feel the butler pantry is your actual kitchen, while others are larger than a common bedroom.
Marble benchtops – We all spend quality time in the kitchen, so we all look to have our kitchens looking nice as we work hard preparing our family’s meals. Kitchen bench tops have gone from laminated to stone benchtops. They last longer, look more luxurious and clean easier. However, the trend has shifted once again. The demand for marble benchtops is starting to replace the more common stone. It’s particularly more favourable with buyers who have a passion to cook. The marble benchtops innately cool surface keeps dough at an ideal workable temperature. Stone benchtops are beautiful, but marble is another level up!
Kitchen tapware – Traditionally, kitchen tapware has always been seen as a standard polished chrome. Many new kitchens are choosing matte black, kitchen textures and even an unfinished look. They look cleaner, hide scratches or scuff marks and make the kitchen look quite trendy!
Flooring – This has been an interesting trend. We have seen a switch from tiles to timber flooring and back the other way again. Investors seem to prefer tiles (porcelain or stone), while owner-occupiers seem to have a split in the middle for both a timber oak floor or a stone tiling floor. This is more influenced by price, but we’d be interested to hear your thoughts.
Integrated kitchen appliances – This is becoming highly popular among buyers. Having an in-built fridge or dishwasher, also known as an integrated kitchen appliance, provides a more consistent theme within the kitchen. People don’t necessarily like to see the bulky old fridge or the inconsistency between kitchen appliances. If it’s integrated into the kitchen, it simply looks like additional storage with a nice polished cupboard appearance.
